An article “Genuine and surrogate patriotism in contemporary citizenship lyric” by Gardashkhan Azizkhanly, the teacher of the Department of Azerbaijan Language and Literature, was published in “Issues of Philology”, November 2017, 15th issue, a publication of Institute of Manuscripts named after M.Fuzuli. The article reviews modern Azerbaijan poems, written with genuine patriotic language, as well as some texts with panegyric characteristics. The author mentions that lyrics by M.Araz, S.Tahir and M. Ismayil are prominent in terms of genuine patriotism. The issue of motherland in their literary works deserves attention in terms of new poetic characteristics.
Moreover, the article deals with pseudo-poems published in some literary publications. The author presents authentic poems of patriotic nature, which played a crucial role in our national revival and development of ideology of Azerbaijanism, against the poems which are simply consist of words and rhymes.
The article mentions that genuine and surrogate patriotism in contemporary citizenship lyric distinctively differs from each other. The elements of genuine patriotism in a poem touches hears of readers, whereas texts full of unnatural patriotism deprived of figurative expressions never satisfy readers.
