On November 3, 2017, an event dedicated to World One Health Day was held at Khazar University. The event was attended by Professor Ibadulla Aghayev, Chief epidemiologist of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Head of the Department of Epidemiology of the Azerbaijan Medical University, Dr. Hafiz Hajiyev, a research fellow from Azerbaijan Medical University, Dr. Elturan Ismayilov, Head of the Department of International Relations and Innovation of the National Oncology Center of Azerbaijan, Dr. Hassan Niknafs, rector of Khazar University, Assoc.Prof. Irada Khalilova, vice-rector for Research, Melek Karimova, PhD candidate, Head of Khazar Psychological Service Center, Valida Karimova, PhD student, Dr. Babek Alibeyov, Research Fellow of Biological Sciences Department, PhD students of Biological Sciences Department, and the students majoring in Biology, Chemistry and Biology, Geography and Environmental Sciences within the School of Education.
Hawa Adli, a PhD student of the Biological Sciences Department, delivered a presentation on the “World One Health Commission, its mission, history, goals and global strategic plans”. Then Dr. Babek Alibeyov informed the audience about “the antimicrobial residency and the problems it has created around the world”.
Khanim Adishirinli, a 3rd year student at the Department of Geography and Environmental Sciences, gave a presentation on “the Environment, its role on healthy life of living organisms, problems and solutions”.
Mehdi Zakeri, a veterinary surgeon and a PhD student, gave a presentation on “vector pathogens and infections, how they can be disseminated and prevented” and emphasized the solutions to this problem supported by European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDPC) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
In conclusion, Professor Ibadulla Aghayev noted about the significance of this event. He encouraged the students and young researchers to identify and prevent pathogens in a timely manner by developing innovative approaches. It was planned to further cover this area, conduct research, organize seminars and conferences in the future.
