Taher Chegini, an instructor at the Department of Civil Engineering of Khazar University, received a full scholarship to continue his professional development in the USA.
Taher Chegini earned his bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (University of Razi) and his master’s in Hydraulic Engineering (K. N. Toosi University of Technology) in Iran. His main academic interest is in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and its many applications, specifically in climate change studies. He started working at Khazar University in February of 2014 where he taught several courses including Fluid Mechanics, Strength of Materials, and Engineering Mechanics to undergraduate engineering students. As the manager of the Civil Engineering Laboratory, Taher Chegini employed laboratory activities in his courses to help students experience hands-on learning.
Chegini was offered 13 licenses of Realflow software, an industry standard 3D visual effects package, worth $26,000 free of charge by the Next Limit Tech. company and started teaching an introductory course on 3D graphic design. Other than this software, Chegini also taught MATLAB for computational methods and SAP2000 for structural design to civil and petroleum engineering students. Moreover, he established a research group in the newly established Khazar Computation Research Center (KCRC) to conduct computational studies.
Taher Chegini was also the initiator of the so-called Spaghetti Bridge Competition. The competition aims at teaching students practical skills and requires that they construct a bridge which can sustain a load by using a specific quantity of materials. The first National Spaghetti Bridge Competition was held in Azerbaijan at Khazar University on May 5, 2015. Participants included students of Khazar University as well as students from other universities across Baku.
In order to further his knowledge and advance his research group at KCRC, Taher decided to pursue a PhD degree. He received a full scholarship from the University of Houston, Texas, USA. He will study flood control systems by means of experimental and numerical studies for his PhD thesis. Upon completion of his PhD study, Taher intends to continue the work he started at Khazar University and expand his research.
We congratulate our instructor with this achievement and wish him success!
