SPE Khazar University Student Chapter

The SPE Khazar University Student Chapter is a professional student society for students interested in petroleum engineering, chemical engineering, energy, applied research, innovation, and industry collaboration. The Chapter connects students with the wider Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) community and supports their academic, technical, and professional development.

The official SPE chapter page lists Khazar University Chapter in Baku, Azerbaijan, with the Azerbaijan Section as its sponsoring section. The Chapter was established on January 1, 2005.

About the Chapter

The Chapter provides students with opportunities to go beyond classroom learning and engage with real professional practice. Through technical sessions, training programs, field visits, competitions, networking events, and student-led initiatives, members can strengthen their knowledge of the energy sector and develop important career skills.

Khazar University has noted that the Chapter’s mission is to give students access to SPE membership, technical and non-technical knowledge, and connection with a global community of petroleum professionals.

What the Chapter Does

The Chapter organizes seminars, workshops, and training sessions on petroleum engineering, chemical engineering, offshore operations, completion design, carbon capture and storage, and other energy-related topics.

Students can meet industry professionals, attend guest lectures, participate in professional discussions, and learn about real workplace expectations in the oil, gas, and energy sectors.

The Chapter supports practical exposure through field visits and industry-related activities. For example, Khazar University reported that the Career Center and SPE Khazar University Student Chapter organized a student visit to SOCAR Polymer, where students learned about plant safety, production processes, and engineering practice.

In addition to technical knowledge, the Chapter supports students in developing communication, leadership, teamwork, critical thinking, public speaking, CV preparation, interview skills, and professional confidence. Recent public activity posts also show training initiatives on topics such as offshore operations and carbon capture and storage.
