Khazar University addressed an appeal regarding the ongoing Patriotic War of Azerbaijan that aims to liberate the territories under the Armenian occupation to its partner universities. The appeal was made to 60 partner universities in more than 30 countries, including but not limited to the University of Bologna (Italy), California State University (USA), Doshisha University (Japan), Middlesex University (UK), Montpellier University (France), Ballarat University (Australia), Dutch Academy of Business (Netherlands), Warsaw University of Economics (Poland), University of Cadiz (Spain), Hallym University (South Korea), Babes-Bolyai University (Romania), Varna University of Management (Bulgaria), and other universities.
The appeal indicates that in the early 1990s Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan and other seven surrounding towns were occupied by Armenia, and thus, Armenia artificially created the so-called "Nagorno-Karabakh Republic" in Azerbaijan's historical lands.
In response to occupation and ethnic cleansing, the UN Security Council passed four resolutions demanding immediate and unconditional withdrawal of Armenian troops from occupied Azerbaijani territories. However, these resolutions remained unfulfilled in subsequent years. The OSCE Minsk Group, co-chaired by the United States, France, and Russia, has also failed to implement or make efforts to execute the resolutions of the UNSC over the past 28 years.
Leaning on its supporters, Armenia launched a new war to capture further Azerbaijani territories in July and September 2020. However, the successful counter-offensive operations of Azerbaijani Army repulsed the attack and enabled to liberate certain parts of the occupied territories.
The appeal also states that Armenia appallingly violates relevant international conventions by shelling reactive and ballistic missiles at densely populated residential areas of Azerbaijan located far from the conflict zone. Armenia’s deliberate and indiscriminate bombardment resulted in civilian casualties, including the elderly, women, and children.
At the end of the appeal, a call is made to support Azerbaijan's legitimate and rightful cause in the restoration of territorial integrity and justice.
