On August 8, 2019, the subsequent visit within the “City Art. Azerbaijan” Project aimed at promoting Azerbaijan's Material and Cultural Heritage, was organized to the archeological excavation site of the ancient monument, which has just begun to be explored with the support of its partners Khazar University and ANAS.
The visit was implemented by virtue of the involvement of the participants and organizers of the “City Art” project - Parvana Aliyeva, Head of Education Department of ANAS Institute of Architecture and Art, Fidan Aliyeva, Research Officer, Department of Education and International Relations, Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of ANAS, Orkhan Zamanov, Instructor at Khazar University’s History and Archeology Department, the students of the Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences. The purpose of the visit was to familiarize with the “Chakkalitepe” monument of the Early Bronze Age, located in the Aygunlu village of Shabran district, which began to be at the center of the scientific and academic scrutiny for the first time since 2016.
During the visit, an excursion to the Museum of History and Ethnography was held. Then there was a familiarization excursion to the Chakkalitepe monument in Aygunlu village. Then the group made a brief overview of the medieval city of Shabran.
Ancient Bronze Age statue of Chakkalitepe consists of several hills. A number of household items were found in the ancient settlement discovered during the construction of the Samur-Davachi channel. In addition, hearths, pottery, and other material and cultural archeological artifacts can be found here.
The visit was conducted with the support of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of ANAS and Khazar University Public Relations and Media Department. Rainfall added a special color to this interesting trip. The invited students of Khazar University, as well as the participants of the project, had the opportunity to find answers to the numerous questions related to the study of Azerbaijan's material and cultural heritage, its natural beauty and rich history.
