On September 8, 2016, the Khazar University Department of History and Archeology held a seminar entitled “Factors Determining Victory and Defeat in Military Battles: History and Modernity.” The seminar was led by Associate Professor Roza Arazova, Head of the Department. Other speakers included Sabuhi Ahmadov, Head of the Division for Organization of Expositions and Exhibitions of the National Azerbaijani History Museum; Orkhan Zamanov, instructor of the Department; Farda Asadov, historian and orientalist; and Akifa Jafarli, Assistant to the Department Head.
Seminar participants discussed factors influencing and determining the outcomes of military battles and wars. They emphasized that systematic and unified influences are significant in determining whether the outcome of a conflict would be victory or defeat. They compared successful Arab and Mongol military operations and noted that in each case, a decisive factor was the use of new military structure and tactics.
The new military maneuvers and strategies in the events of April 2016 in Karabakh were discussed in light of these lessons from history.
