Associate Professor Orkhan Valiyev, head of the Department of Political Science and Philosophy, attended the presentation of the book "Azerbaijanis Whose Final Destination Was Istanbul" by migration history researcher Dilgam Ahmad on October 18, 2024, at the invitation of the Consulate General of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Istanbul. The book was published with the support of the Consulate General.
The book is dedicated to some members of the intellectual generation who played a role in the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, including Ahmed Bey Aghaoglu and Ali Bey Huseynzade, who lived and were buried in Istanbul.
At the event organized by Azerbaijan's Consulate General in Istanbul, speakers including Consul General Narmina Mustafayeva, Azerbaijan's Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina Vilayat Guliyev, Chairman of Azerbaijan Writers' Union and People's Writer Anar, Head of Turkey-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (GNAT) MP Shamil Ayrim, Marmara University Professor Mehdi Ganjali, Fatali Khan Khoyski's grandnephew Karim Mehmetdazde, Professor Ibrahim Yildirim and others discussed the difficult life paths of Azerbaijanis who were forced to leave Azerbaijan after 1918.
The book features rare photographs and documents related to Azerbaijanis buried in Istanbul. The event concluded with a musical program performed by Vusala Asgarova, soloist of the Azerbaijan Cultural Center under the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Turkey.
