On March 1, 2023, an event dedicated to "March 1 – World Civil Defense Day" was organized by the School of Science and Engineering and the Department of Life Sciences of Khazar University. The event was attended by the faculty members and students of the University.
The event was opened by an employee of Khazar University, a member of the Civil Defense Headquarters and lieutenant colonel in reserve Mais Talishkhanov. He provided students with an overview of the importance of civil defense, its responsibilities and ways to prepare the population for emergencies. Then the word to run the event was given to students of the School of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences of the University Amina Mahmudova and Aytan Huseynli. Asmar Gasimova, a student of the same school, provided information about the history of the creation of the International Civil Defense Organization and the path of its development, and the role of Azerbaijan in this organization.
"March 1 – World Civil Defense Day" is dedicated to a specific theme every year. This year the event continued with the presentation "The Role of Information Technology in Risk Assessment" prepared by Sumaya Alakbarova, a first-year student at the University. The speaker talked of risk assessment rules and maps for disaster management, a general overview paper on the risks of natural and man-made disasters, including the application of information technology in risk assessment methods and GIS (Geographic Information System).
Recently, the death of thousands of people as a result of a natural disaster that happened in fraternal Türkiye, the collapse of buildings and structures again raised the issue of an earthquake. At the event, Aygun Ismayilova, a third-year student of the School of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences, read the poems "Earthquake" by Valeh Goja and "Deprem" (Earthquake) by Bakhtiyar Vahabzade. Student Roya Ismayilova made a presentation on the topic "The impact of earthquakes, which are geophysical phenomena, on people and objects" The presentation talked about the causes of earthquakes, the damage they cause to objects, people and society. The participants of the event were also broadly made aware of the dedication of the employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Azerbaijan in search and rescue operations to eliminate the earthquake that occurred in fraternal Türkiye and its consequences, and of humanitarian assistance. The lecture ended with a presentation of "Emergency bag" by student Ayna Seyidova.
In the practical part of the event, student Nargiz Hadiyeva demonstrated the rules for performing artificial respiration in first aid and closed heart massage, which are associated with rescue operations during emergencies. Then, students Deniz Aslanli and Aytaj Lalakhanova presented to the participants of the event the rules for using a first aid bag, first aid for bleeding and fractures.
Since the movement and transportation of victims is very important from the viewpoint of security, Mirmahammad Jabbarov, Shahriyar Rustamov, Amil Aghasiyev, Murad Ismayilzade and Gunduz Mammadli, 1st year students of the School of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences, explained and practically demonstrated to the participants of the event "methods of transporting victims".
Speaking at the event, Rovshan Abbasov, member of the Commission for Emergency Situations of Khazar University, Head of the Department of Geography and Environment, Doctor of Philosophy in Geography, presented information on modern scientific views on "Forecasting and analysis of natural disasters in the world". Islam Huseynov, member of the Civil Defense Headquarters of the University and coordinator of the Administrative Division, spoke about the special importance of ensuring the safety of people and protecting the population during emergencies. This is where the event ended.
