On October 25, 2019, a literary and artistic event was held at Khazar University Fikrat Amirov Conference-Concert Center, to mark the birthday of Vurgun Ayyub, the former Head of the University's Department of Languages and Literature, and the first Chairman of the State Student Admission Commission, literary scholar, social and political figure. The event was attended by the University Administration, staff and students, representatives of the scientific and literary community, and members of the family of Vurgun Ayyub.
At the rich compositional event, which started by the humorous Nasimi's “Ayrilir”, students recited poems, including poems by Vurgun Ayyub, and musical numbers were performed. The student of the University, Shamsiyya Jafarli, accompanied by the honored teacher Zulfiyya Sadigova, the Head of the Department of Music and Fine Art at Khazar University, sang the song “Ayrılıq” (Separation) and Ashig Shahriyar performed love poems playing accompanying with saz. During the event, slides were shown to highlight the activities of Vurgun Ayyub at Khazar University.
Speaking at the event, Rector of Khazar University, Associate Professor Irada Khalilova, described Vurgun Ayyub as the experienced head of a department and a caring teacher who regarded students as his children.
During the event, while delivering their speches, MP Agil Abbas, Professors Gulu Maharramli, Badirkhan Ahmedov, Ali Shamil, poet Elnaz Eyvaz, Turkish embassy spokesperson Huseyin Altınalin, Associate Professor Elza Samedova, Dean of Khazar University School of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences, shared their memories about Vurgun Ayyub.
