Prof. Ajdar Aghayev, Honorable pedagogue and writer-publicist of Azerbaijan, DSc. in Pedagogical Sciences, Honored Teacher, Founder and Chairman of the Azerbaijan Education Council, member of the board of the National Council of Elders, individual Presidential grant holder, and a member of Editorial Board of "Khazar Review" journal, passed away at the age of 81 on November 27, 2018.
Ajdar Aghayev made an unexampled contribution to the development of pedagogy in Azerbaijan and introduced prominent Azerbaijanis to the world through his works. Ajdar Aghayev authored more than 500 scientific works, 40 books, monographs and textbooks. He was a full member of the Russian Academy of Social and Pedagogical Sciences. He was a laureate of the award named after academician Mehdi Mehdizadeh.
Ajdar Agayev was a well-known organizer and expert in education. He was a member of a working group on the Education Reform Program in the Republic of Azerbaijan and a member of a working group on preparation of a draft of Law on Education. Moreover, he was a member of the Expert Council of the Higher Attestation Commission under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. He was also Chairman of the Department of Pedagogy and Psychology of the Scientific and Methodical Council of the Ministry of Education, and a member of the Organizing Committee of the competitions "Best School" and "Best Teacher".
Throughout his career, Ajdar Aghayev also functioned in leading positions and as an organizer in media. He was Editor-in-chief of the journal of "Azerbaijan school" and its methodical supplements.
Ajdar Agayev was also active in literary creativity. He was a member of the Union Azerbaijani Journalists and the Union of Azerbaijani Writers. He is an author of 10 fictions. His works have been published in Russian, English, Ukrainian, Belarusian and Bashkir languages. More than 100 pieces of music have been composed to lyrics by Ajdar Aghayev. He is also a laureate of the "Araz" Higher Literary Prize.
Ajdar Agayev was in close relation with Khazar University and "Dunya" school. He delivered lectures and open lessons at Khazar University and "Dunya" school. In his articles and interviews, he highly appreciated Khazar University and "Dunya" school and cited them as examples for the country's education system. He also contributed to the journal of "Khazar Review" with his valuable recommendations.
Ajdar Agayev's dear memory will always live in the hearts of those who know him.
