On June 5, 2018, the opening ceremony for Fikrat Amirov Conference-Concert Center took place at the “Dunya” Concert-Conference Hall at the downtown campus of Khazar University. The “Dunya” Concert-Conference Hall, where national and international ceremonies have been hosted for a long time, and which is well-known in the cultural community, will have a new status.
Prof. Hamlet Isakhanli, the founder of Khazar University, and Chairman of its Board of Directors and Trustees, greeted prominent cultural figures and invited them to the opening of Fikrat Amirov’s bas-relief. The opening ceremony was displayed on the screen for those in the hall. Firangiz Alizadeh, Chair of the Union of Azerbaijan Composers, and Sevil Amirova, the daughter of the great composer, with the applause of the participants, took the white cover over the bas-relief. The “Dunya” Concert-Conference Hall became Fikrat Amirov Conference-Concert Center when the University administration came back.
Prof. Hamlet Isakhanli gave a broad overview of Fikret Amirov's life and career, mentioning that the great musician created a school of art and was recognized worldwide.
Then the artistic part of the ceremony began. The Chamber Orchestra of Khazar University performed the IV part of “Nizami” symphony, "Kurd ovshari" (Sevda Rahimova, a composer and a teacher of “Dunya” school who also works for Chamber Orchestra), waltz from "Sevil" opera, and “Scheherazade's holiday” from “One Thousand and One Nights” ballet.
The followong pieces of music were performed by various performers: Azer Zeynalov, People’s Artist – “Balash’s aria” from “Sevil” opera; Atash Garayev, the soloist of Azerbaijan State Musical Theater, laureate of international competitions – “Balahs’s song”, Alim Gasimov, People’s Artist, and Fargana Gasimova, Honored Artist (duet) – “The Song of a Blind Arab” from “Sheykh Sanan” a play by Huseyn Javid; Sabina Vahabzadeh, Honored Artist, – “Lands of Azerbaijan”; Gulyanag Mammadova, People’s Artist – “The night passed” and “Goygol” (accompanied by folk instruments ensemble); Ramiz Guliyev, People’s Artist and a tar player – “I am looking for you” and “Morning”; the dance ensemble of Khazar University – Choreographic etude based on the “One Thousand and One Nights” ballet.
Firangiz Alizadeh, Chair of the Union of Azerbaijan Composers, delivered a speech and noted that the establishment of Fikrat Amirov Conference-Concert Center was a new contribution to Azerbaijani culture. Sevil Amirova expressed her gratitude to the University administration and the participants for respect to his father.
