On May 18, 2018, a grand anniversary ceremony dedicated to the commemoration of 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, the first democratic republic in the East, was held in Chicago city, Illinois state, on the organizational support of “Azerbaijan Society of America” functioning in Chicago.
Prof. Nasiman Yagublu, the instructor of the Department of History and Archaeology of Khazar University, as well as more than 200 activists of Azerbaijan Society in Illinois and Azerbaijanis from neighboring countries participated in the ceremony dedicated to the commemoration of 100th anniversary of the Democratic Republic.
Upon greetings by the organizers, some state figures and scholars from Azerbaijan and America delivered congratulatory messages. George Van Dusen, Mayor of Chicago, Umut Ajar, Turkish Consul in Chicago, Rais Rasulzadeh, Mahammad Amin Rasulzadeh’s grandson, Tomris Azeri, Dr. Adil Baghirov, Prof. Harry Lepinske and others talked about their memories of Azerbaijan and sent congratulatory messages. Prof. Nasiman Yagublu enlightened the participants about the history of the Republic.
Congratulatory letters by Naim Amiral (John Amiral), United States Navy Commander, and others, who could not take part in the ceremony, were read to the participants. In the musical part of the ceremony, Prof. Ramiz Guliyev, a tar player, Lala Mammadova, Nuriyya Huseynova, Chinara Malikzadeh and Etibar Asadli, a pianist, performed pieces of music.
The guests were presented with gifts especially designed for the 100th anniversary of the Democratic Republic. Activists of Azerbaijan Society living in Illinois made a financial support for a high-level organization of the ceremony.
