A research paper entitled “Does Urbanization Boost Pollution from Transport?” developed by Shahriyar Mukhtarov, vice dean of the School of Economics and Management, has been published in the 5th number, 65th volume of the “Acta Universitatis Agriculturae et Silviculturae Mendelianae Brunensis” journal of Mendelu University in Brno. The journal is indexed in major databases as SCOPUS (Elsevier B. V.) and Zoological Record (Thomson Scientific, Inc.) and so on.
The study examines the impacts of urbanization, energy consumption and real GDP on atmospheric pollution from automobile transport in Azerbaijan in the STIRPAT framework. The results of study found the highest impact on pollution among the variables belongs to urbanization which is positive and statistically significant. The results also revealed that sustainable development can be reached only keeping the balance among environmental, social and economic factors.
