National ISBN Agency Book Collections is part of a growing collection of Khazar University Library & Information Center (LIC) within the Khazar University library and publishing sector. The comprehensive collections of Azerbaijan publications formed in this way provide the means for research into all aspects of Azerbaijan life, culture, and artistic, commercial, technical and scientific endeavor.
There are some possibilities to provide library visitors information on print and digital ISBN publications via Khazar University digital catalogue and Institutional Repository by DSpace platform. It possible to better integrate the paper and digital collection of ISBN publications and to invite visitors of Khazar University LIC not to limit the literature they use to one format, as currently is the case with the digital-oriented students. Open access shelves with DSpace provide the opportunity to exhibit both paper and digital literature in the library space.

28 new books landed at the Khazar University, thanks to a generous donation by the Nippon Foundation. From politics and literature to culture, art, history and economics, the books cover a wide variety of topics and were donated as part of the 100 Books for Understanding Contemporary Japan project. The total of books received within this project by the Khazar University Library & Information Center (LIC) in form of volumes amounts to 78.
The collection was put on display at the LIC on September 2, 2019 for a special reception to celebrate the donation. The books were donated by the Nippon Foundation under their "Read Japan" initiative helps to promote a deeper understanding of contemporary Japan.
Khazar University LIC Director, Dr. Tatyana Zayseva offered a brief overview of the Nippon Foundation mission and goals, academic staff declared, adding that they are fascinated by Japanese society and culture, and that they look forward to reading more about it, She emphasized that LIC has gained an invaluable resource in the study of Japanese history, society and culture.
Khazar University English Language & Literature Department Head, Dr. Bahman Amani said: “These books are wonderful addition to Khazar University Library and Information Center collection development”.
LIC staff very appreciated book donation program that presents well-selected profiles of Japanese culture in diverse topics, which will help our readers understand the people of Japan society. Librarians expressed hope to take the cooperation between Khazar University and the Nippon Foundation further.
This amazing book collection will help Khazar University students and the community advance their understanding of Japan, and further strengthen the ties between the two countries.
On May 22, 2019, a seminar on “How to Use Cambridge University Press Resources” was organized by Library & Information Center of Khazar University. Leszek Czerwinski, Representative of the Cambridge Publishing house gave a detailed information about the resources.
Following that, Mehmet Can Soyulmaz, EBSCO Information Services representative delivered a presentation on the new service “Flipster digital magazines”.
It was reported during the seminar that access to use new resources will be made available for Khazar University.
During the seminar participants got the chance to get answers to their questions.
On May 8, 2019, the subsequent event of the Azerbaijan Library Information Consortium (ALIC) was held. At the event, ADA University Library staff provided information on the ANKOS 2019 PDP program.
The event was followed by the discussions on the proposal of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) - the World Library Map, and recommendations were made on the creation of a coordinator and a working group.
Director of Library and Information Center of Khazar University Tatyana Zaytseva and Deputy Director Aytac Misgarli attended the event.
On April 1-4, 2019, Khazar University staff members – Dr. Jeyhun Mammadov, Dean of the School of Economics and Management; Dr. Tatyana Zayseva, Director of the Library and Information Center; and Dr. Elmar Mustafayev, Head of the Political Science and Philosophy Department – participated in the final meeting of Erasmus+ NIZAMI Project at Montpelier University, France. The project meeting was devoted to the final reports of partner universities on work packages and the dissemination event to be held on April 12, 2019.
The final meeting of NIZAMI Project was attended by partner universities and institutions from Azerbaijan – Azerbaijan National Academy of Science, Khazar University, Baku Engineering University, UNEC, Azerbaijan University of Languages, Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction, and Nakhchivan University – and programme universities from EU – Montpelier University, Barcelona University, and Lund University.
On the third day of the meeting, Dr. Elmar Mustafayev delivered a presentation on Work Package 2 of NIZAMI Project, Structuring Doctoral Education. The presentation briefed the participants about the Doctoral School Model of Khazar University established within the NIZAMI Project.
On 15th of March 2019 Khazar University organized seminar on eLearning and MOODLE within PETRA ERASMUS+ project. The seminar started with the opening of the Electronic Laboratory, which was established within the framework of the project. Members of Library and Information Center at Khazar led the seminar and discussed the details of how MOODLE platform works, how to use the updated eLearning system, opportunities within DSpace of Khazar, how to upload materials and how to use it. Alongside with Khazar University staff, members of Azerbaijan University of Languages, Baku Slavic University and Azerbaijan University, partners of the project, also participated in the seminar.

On December 27, 2018, the workshop entitled “Two decades overview of Scientific Research in Islamic World: Republic of Azerbaijan’s Status in Global Ranking Systems & WoS” was conducted by Library and Information Center of Khazar University in partnership with the Regional Information Center for Science and Technology (RICeST) and Islamic World Science Citation Center ISC), Iran, at Khazar University. It aims to encourage Khazar University researchers to take part in shaping research and development agenda through its workshops and to provide discussion on current research and development approaches and tools.
Dr. Mohammad Javad Dehghani, President of ISC & RICeST and Dr. Mohammad Reza Falahati Qadimi Fumani, Associate Prof. Office of International Scientific Cooperation, Director, Consultant to the President, RICeST & ISC gave an overview of the RICeST & ISC activities. A special attention was paid the Global Ranking Systems and Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) University Ranking. They also gave the specific objectives of the future seminar and provided points to meet the expectations of the participants.
Dr. Javad Dehghani reiterated that one of the goals in conducting the seminar is to encourage the participants to publish scientific articles in internationally recognized journals. Dr. Reza Falahati emphasized the need to prepare institution-specific efforts related to increasing the number of publications.
An important part of their presentation was devoted to a general analysis of publication activity in Azerbaijani universities and in more detail using the example of Khazar University. At the end of the workshop various strategies were recommended to improve quality of research outputs. Some of the strategies include research collaboration between various universities and institutionalization of various incentive systems to encourage researchers to publish in reputable journals.
The workshop was attended Khazar University faculty, PhD students, librarians and participants from various Azerbaijani Universities.
After workshop two Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) were signed between Khazar University and RICeST and ISC. As part of these agreements, a branch office of the RICeST & ISC was established at Khazar University LIC to the benefit of Persian students and faculty members as well as out-campus users interested in, or in need of, full-text Persian scientific information.

On December 13, 2018, Mr. Sanjay Rana, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Republic of India to Azerbaijan, delivered lectures at Khazar University about the role of India in world tourism, recommendations on tourism development as well as economic, social and political life of India and bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and India.
Then Mr. Sanjay Rana visited the Library and Information Center of Khazar University and contributed 73 books dedicated to history, politics, genius personalities, literature, art and culture of India.

On October 18, 2018, Aytaj Misgarli and Samira Orujova, associates of the Library and Information Center at Khazar University, held a training “Guidelines for using the services of the Library and Information Center” for the first-year students of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
The students were informed about Guidelines for using the Library, Creating Reader Account, Electronic Catalogue, Electronic Archive and Electronic Database.
On October 17, 2018, at 15:00, Mr Douglas Heintz, a representative of EBSCO Information service, delivered a presentation “EBSCO Discovery Service: search, content and software at libraries in the XXI century” at Khazar University.

KUIR is not only contemporary or emerging source of knowledge, information and communication but also one of the important digital services in our university.

On September 20, 2018, Merve Okur Karagulle and Selin Shencanli, the representatives of “SpringerNature” publishing house visited Library and Information Center at Khazar University and held discussions on the accessibility of useful resources for both sides.
It is planned to conduct a presentation on the topic “How to produce an article” in the upcoming months.
On September 12, 2018 two Fulbright scholars from Eastern Kentucky University (USA) Mrs. Pr. Qaisar Sultana and Mr. Ron Smith visited Khazar University Library Information Center. Guests got acquainted with the library collection on education, reference books, new books arrivals, Khazar Press books.

On May 18, 2018, Library and Information Center of Khazar University held a discussion on the topic “Why do modern readers prefer psychological and motivational books?” within the project “Let’s read together”.
Esmira Huseynova, an associate of Library and Information Center, opened the meeting. Psychologist Leyla Gasimova, a Khazar University graduate, also participated in the discussion. Students took an active part in the discussion and expressed interesting opinions.
Similar events were requested to be held in the future.
On April 24, 2018, Aytaj Misgarli and Samira Orujova, staff members of Library and Information Centre of Khazar University, held a training on “How to use electronic resources” for the students of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. Students received broad information on access to information resources, effective search methods and new services at the library.
On April 17-20, 2018, Aytaj Misgarli, Director of Library and Information Center of Khazar University, participated in ANKOSLink - 2018 conference held in Antalya. ANKOS is a Library and Information Consortium providing University libraries with e-resources.
More than 500 participants from 20 countries took part in the conference. The topic of the conference for this year was “Library – a door to research”. The aim of the conference was to discuss the importance of the libraries for researches during intense competition among universities. Librarians from various countries exchanged views throughout the conference and touched key topics regarding librarians. Moreover, participants discussed changing roles of academic libraries as well as commitments and challenges of libraries in XXI century.
At the end of the conference the participants held a meeting to discuss opportunities to build relations with libraries of Azerbaijan.
On March 16, 2018, Library and Information Center of Khazar University hosted an event entitled “Let’s read together”. Esmira Huseynova, representative of Library and Information Center, delivered an opening speech talking about reading culture.
Speakers talked about the most favorite genres in modern times. Active members of Library and Information Center participated at the workshop with great interest, and mentioned that these kinds of activities contribute to their reading culture. The Center is planning to regularly conduct such kind of workshops.
Active members were presented with certificates by Library and Information Center.
A promotional workshop will be held by Khazar University Library Information Center within “Let’s read together” project, at 16:00, on March 16, 2018. The aim of the project is to increase students’ interest in reading and instill reading culture into them.
