MISSION

Khazar University LIC as the intellectual heart of the university community, provides quality support for teaching, learning, and research through our staff, collections, programs, spaces, and services.

Present-2009

2021

Open Access National ISBN Book collection

Through our DSpace, we are able to offer publishers a platform for their OA content which ensures visibility, discoverability, and wide dissemination. These materials are freely vailable to libraries and users around the world. http://dspace.khazar.org/handle/20.500.12323/4120 

2021 All Khazar University Library & Information Center branches have re-opened with regular operating hours.
2020 2020 New collection on library resources & services related to the COVID-19 was created in DSpace http://dspace.khazar.org/handle/20.500.12323/4362 
2020 Khazar University LIC provides electronic services, trainings and presentation online.
2019 Khazar University Press cataloque was prepared by LIC staff and published.
2019 LIC staff members participated in final meeting of Nizami Project at Montpelier University, France and PETRA meeting in Ganja.
2019 ePortfolio by Mahara platform was implemented.
2019 Develop strategies on how the Library can effectively integrate into the KU online learning environment (e.g. Moodle).
2019 Continue to develop partnership with Agape University, access to the LIRN was provided.
2018 Regularly orientation presentations to students (new coming orientation), faculty and staff, at student or faculty meetings were held.
2018 Launched new reader’s digital cards for the new coming students.

Partnership with Agape University (USA) was established.
2018 Upgraded prior version 1.8 of DSpace to DSpace 6.2 version, handle services was developed.
2018 LIC Strategic Plan and Action plans for 2018-2021 were designed.
2017 Follett Destiny ILS was implemented.
2016 LIC has received the  books within Nippon Foundation project entitled  "100 Books for Understanding Contemporary Japan 2016".
2015 "Let’s read together" project was implemented.
2014 Chinese Corner project was developed and regular events within this project was conducted.
2012 According to the QS World University Rankings® 2011/2012 Khazar University included in the final table for the first time.
2011 Director of the Khazar University LIC, Tatyana Zayseva has been nominated to be the Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) Coordinator for Azerbaijan in July, 2011.
2011 Khazar University library was selected to receive a donation of 100 books through the “100 Books for Understanding Contemporary Japan” program.
2011 Khazar University LIC has been selected as The International Society for Science & Religion I (ISSR) Library awardee.
2011 The Ranking Web of World Repositories (January 2011) announced the latest institutional repository worldwide rankings. KUIR moved up to 892 on the list of more than 1,100 repositories evaluated.
2010 The Ranking Web of World Repositories (July, 2010) announced the latest institutional repository worldwide rankings. First in our country according to this ranking, the Khazar University Institutional Repository is the only repository in the Caucasus and Central Asia.
2010 eGranary Digital Library Library based at the University of Iowa (USA) the WiderNet innovation project has implemented at the Khazar University Library.
2009 Academic year of 2009 is the most significant year in the history of the Khazar University Library since it is the year when the Library moved into its new building Reading Halls.

 

2008 - 2000

2008 Khazar University institutional Repository (KUIR) is the first electronic archive in Azerbaijan was implemented in October 2008.
2008 Library Information Center together with the Caucasus Research Resource Centers (CRRC) library staff translated “A very brief introduction to Open Access” from English into Azeri.
2008  Information about Khazar University Library Information Center was presented at Wikipedia website in three languages: English, Azeri, and Russian.
2007 Agreement between LIC and Halliburton was signed to provide library collection development i in the field
of oil and gas.
2007 LIC is engaged in research related to analysis the journal impact factors, indexed by Thomson Scientific.
2007 Joint project on Creation of a Textual Database for the Development and Codification of the Azerbaijani Language together with “Sonmaz Mashal” Cultural Relations Social Unity and UNESCO's financial support was developed.
2007 LIC has joined in INTAS's (International Association for the promotion of cooperation with scientists from the Independent States of the former Soviet Union) e-library action.
2006 LIC OPAC became available via Internet.
2006 LIC has been participating in the first eIFL-cooperation project.
2006 First edition of the Bibliography (a summary review of the Khazar University faculty and staff's publications in various university manifestations: books, journal articles, and conference papers) dedicated to Khazar University's 15th Anniversary, was published.
2005 International Exchange Program was developed with the Library of Congress and UCLA.
2005 LIC was involved in two projects:
- CALIMERA (Culture Applications Local Institutions Mediating Electronic Access) and eIFL's pOPen Access Program 2005;
- World Vision's Gift in Kind Program. Within this program LIC received more than 1,500 books for children.
2005 LIC has been designed as an official depository library of the Asian Development Bank Azerbaijan Resident Mission (ADB AZRM).
2005 Library Automation System "Follett" was established in MBA Library and "Dunya" School Library.
2004 The donation from Sabre Foundation is one of the most valuable collections ever donated to Khazar University – over 13,490 books with a fair market value of over $419,580.
2004 MBA Library was established at the Downtown Campus.
2003 Guttenberg Project was established with National Library and Institute of Literature.
2003 An online catalogue of the collections is made available in the Reading Halls and within any workstations
from the University.
2003 Access to EBSCO databases and agreement signed with different world online companies become available due to active participation of Khazar University in Azerbaijan Library consortium.
2001 Summer Course under OSI Azerbaijan "Automation: Library and Information Services" was held.
2001 School Library "Dunya" was established in 2001.
2000  Library and Information Services Division was established to manage Khazar University Library System  (2000).
2000 LIC Reference Reading Hall was opened.

 

1999-1991

1999 Summer School “Libraries and Librarians: Access to Information” under OSI Azerbaijan was held.
1999 LIC has been designated as an official Regional Depository of the World Bank in Azerbaijan.
1999  Two research projects under USIS-SOROS were realized:
- Library Reference Collection Development;
- Library Automation.
1996 A special award of the International Association of School Librarianship recognized activities of the Center for Librarians/Information Specialists.
1995 The Center for Education and Information Studies (CEIS) of Khazar University was established in 1995 as important outcome of the early stage of the partnership with graduate School of education and Information Studies at the University of California in Los Angeles under USIS funding.
1994-1992 Firstly, in Azerbaijani librarianship the holdings was classified and arranged according Dewey Decimal Classification System.
1993 To facilitate physical access to information, a policy of self-service has been chose with open access to stacks located within the Reading Hall areas.
1991-1992 The foundation years of the Khazar University Library.
Due to the infrastructure situation, the Library carries on its activities in two separate Campuses: The East or Ahmedli Campus in the Khatai District and West Campus is in Yassamal Distric, near the Metro Station, "January 20 th." Both Campuses have their Libraries and Reading Halls.
