Students majoring in Geography Teaching and in Geography and History Teaching at Khazar University went on a field trip on October 26, 2026, to the section of the Gudyalchay River passing through the territory of Guba District.
The purpose was to enrich students' theoretical knowledge of water resources, their efficient use, and their integrated management with practical observations. During the field trip, they gained information on the characteristics of the river ecosystem, the importance of surface waters, the natural factors affecting the formation of water resources, and the interaction of water resources with the environment. Issues such as the protection of water resources, the prevention of pollution, the efficient use of water in households, agriculture, and other sectors, as well as the importance of the sustainable management of water resources, were also discussed.
Becoming familiar with the essence of integrated water resources management, students also learned about the importance of taking environmental, social, and economic factors into account in this process, of cooperation among water users, and of preserving water resources for future generations. They also broadened their knowledge of the possible impacts of climate change and hydrological phenomena such as drought and flooding on water resources, and of the importance of the comprehensive management of river basins.
The field observations gave students the opportunity to apply the knowledge they had gained in the classroom in a real geographic environment, to study the natural features of the river more closely, and to approach environmental problems related to water resources management in a practical way.
The trip further increased students' interest in the protection and sustainable management of water resources, contributing to the development of a responsible attitude toward nature and to greater attention to the topic of water resource protection in their future professional work.
Such field trips are of great importance for increasing future geography teachers' environmental knowledge, developing their practical skills, and strengthening their awareness in the field of sustainable water resources management.
