Khazar University’s Emerging Technologies and Artificial Intelligence (ETAI) Research Center organized a two-day “AI for Educators” workshop on October 23–24, bringing together academics and instructors from universities to explore practical applications of artificial intelligence in course design, teaching, personalized learning, and student assessment.
The workshop welcomed participants from Khazar University, Odlar Yurdu University, Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts, and the National Defense University. Through hands-on exercises and collaborative activities, participants explored how AI tools can support teaching practices, improve educational resources, and address emerging challenges in higher education.
The workshop was delivered by Dr. Gloria Shkurti Özdemir, Director of the ETAI Research Center at Khazar University and Director of Research at AEGIX Institute in the United States, and Dr. Dolapo Fakuade, Senior Associate at Coventry University in the United Kingdom and a member of the ETAI Research Center.
The first day focused on the foundations of AI and course design. Participants assessed their existing educational workflows, identified teaching challenges, and explored how AI could help address them. Practical sessions covered designing lectures and learning objectives, structuring syllabi, and creating teaching materials, including quizzes, case studies, handouts, and reading summaries.
The second day addressed personalized learning and assessment in an AI-enabled educational environment. Participants used AI to adapt learning materials for students with different needs and abilities and examined approaches to redesigning assessments to ensure meaningful evaluation of student learning. They also drafted AI-use policies for their courses and developed institutional or individual AI Action Plans, presenting their proposed approaches to integrating AI into their educational practices.
The workshop concluded with a reflection session and the distribution of Certificates of Completion issued by Khazar University.
Khazar University continues to prioritize artificial intelligence as a strategic area of education, research, and institutional development. Its AI-related initiatives extend beyond educator training to support faculty members, researchers, and postgraduate students, while creating opportunities for international scholars, researchers, students, and professionals to explore AI’s transformative impact on global affairs, diplomacy, and academic innovation. Through these activities, Khazar University seeks to strengthen AI literacy, promote innovative teaching and research, and prepare academic communities to navigate the opportunities and challenges of technological transformation.
