On July 7, 2021, the website demokrat.az published an interview with Rovshan Abbasov, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Geography and  Environment at Khazar University, regarding the recent pollution of the Oxchuchay River which has been widely discussed in recent days.

In the interview, the ecologist concluded that “The reason of the pollution of the Oxchuchay is the direct discharge of industrial waste from the Gajaran copper-molybdenum plant and Gafan copper ore refinery in Armenia into the river without treatment.The condition of the river is worse than expected and the river is completely polluted. It is no longer suitable for any purpose”.
