On June 1, 2021, a number of national news portals and websites (avropa.info, miq.az, mia.az, etc.) published news that a petition entitled “Disrespect for the state language must end” addressed to the head of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Azerbaijan Samir Nuriyev by hundreds of intellectuals was also signed by Director of Khazar University’s Public Relations and Media Alovsat Amirbayli, and Khazar Khabar’s Deputy Editor-in-Chief, Honored Journalist Alirza Balayev.

The petition states that the language usage observed in the streets of Baku and other major cities - writing of company and trade facility names, advertisements only in a foreign language - contradicts the requirements of the law on the state language and it must end unconditionally.
