On March 1-5, 2021, Michael J. McInerney, Professor of Department of Microbiology and Plant Biology at the University of Oklahoma, USA, held an online training entitled “Innovative Solutions to Waste Treatment and Energy Production Using Anaerobic Microorganisms” with the support of Khazar University and Food Safety Institute of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The training covered the nutrition and physiology of anaerobes, biofuels, methane, hydrogen and alcohol, the process of microbial oil recovery, as well as the use of microorganisms to convert sewage and agricultural waste into energy, especially methane, and to clean polluted areas.
The training was attended by scientists, specialists and students from Khazar University, Azerbaijan State Agrarian University, and Food Safety Institute of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The training was integrative and aroused great interest among the participants. In this training, local scientists and experts asked interesting and topical questions on the use of microbiological processes for energy production and the treatment of waste, pollution, and put forward several project ideas. At the end of the training, participants were presented with certificates online.
