On January 11, 2020, the National Coordination Meeting of the Global Network of Civil Society Organizations for Disaster Reduction (GNDR), was held at Khazar University, being organized by the Environmental Research Center. More than 30 representatives from NGOs, universities and research institutes attended the meeting. Initially, Rovshan Abbasov, the Head of the Department of Geography and Environment at Khazar University, provided detailed information for the representatives on GNDR and its role in the region. Further on following experts delivered talks on such issues as: R. Abbasov, “Vulnerability and Disaster Reduction. Disaster Reduction and Child-centered Management”; Rovshan Karimov, Representative of the Azerbaijan Geographic Society, “Natural Disasters in Azerbaijan”; Samir Abbasov, Natural Disaster Risk Reduction Expert “Natural Disasters of Aquatic Origin. Floods and their Management”; Associate Professor Vugar Dargahov from BSU, “Anthropogenic Loading, Natural Disasters and Changes in Recreational Potential”; Gasham Zeynalov, Head of the Petroleum and Gas Engineering at Khazar University, “Geological Hazards in Azerbaijan”. Ruhangiz Huseynova, Representative of the Women's Solidarity Public Association shared her experience on the Disaster Risk Management by the “Organization of Women’s Solidarity” and Rashail Ismailov, Representative of Water Usage Specialists Association, in his turn shared his experience on the Water Resources and Water Usage Specialists Union in Azerbaijan.

During the meeting, interesting discussions were held and the National Coordination Network was established.
