Conference titled “In the Context of Relations and Mutual Relations in the Eurasian Cultural Space. Antiquities of Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Southern Syberia (new data and definitions)”, dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Patriarch of Eurasian Archeology Vadim Mikhailovich Masson, was held on November 18-22, 2019 in St. Petersburg. Conference was attended Rosa Arazova, Associate Professor of History and Archeology Department at Khazar University, Tufan Akhundov, Doctor of History Sciences, Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of the ANAS, and Khagani Almammedov, PhD, Senior Research Fellow at the same institute.
V. Masson, a prominent scientist studying the ancient civilizations of Central Asia, has always been in close contact with Azerbaijani scholars. He has been to Azerbaijan several times, attended symposiums and conferences, and the Institute of Material Culture of the Russian Academy of Sciences and its Central Asian and Caucasus Department led by him (1981-1992) has been a kind of school for the training of Azerbaijani archeologists. Azerbaijani researchers and post-graduate students participated in archeological expeditions (excavations) at the famous Jeyton and Altintepa monuments to master the methods of field research and gain experience.
VMMasson and his wife, an outstanding archaeologist-trologologist G.F. Korobkova have repeatedly been the reviewer and the head of a number of research works of the Azerbaijani archeologists, especially the participant of this conference.
The opening and work of the conference took place at the State Hermitage and the Institute of Material History of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Many reports of scientists from Russia, Turkmenistan, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Germany, Italy, Iran, France and other countries were heard at the conference.
Conference participants had the opportunity to visit the halls of the State Hermitage and Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography during their leisure time.
