On April 4 and 5, 2019, Khazar University hosted an International Conference entitled “Air-Land-Sea Interactions”. This conference was organized jointly by UNESCO, Khazar University, Istanbul Aydın University, Istanbul Technical University, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Eurasian Universities Union (EURAS).
The conference commenced with the opening statement of Associate Professor Irada Khalilova, Rector of Khazar University. Following that, Professor Hamlet Isakhanli, the Founder of Khazar University and Chairman of its Board of Directors and Trustees welcomed the guests, spoke about the topics to be discussed and the importance of the relationships to be established.
Dr. Rovshan Abbasov, Director of Geography and Environment Department, co-chair of the conference and Professor Zafer Aslan, Vice-Rector of Istanbul University also delivered speeches at the conference.
On the first day of the conference, the participants discussed such topics as alternative energy sources, environmental pollution, atmospheric events, human impact on the environment, climate change, drought, and dangerous nature events.
On the first day of the conference training was arranged for the organizers and other invited parties. This training was attended by Professor Hamlet Isakhanli, the Founder of Khazar University and Chairman of its Board of Directors and Trustees, Associate Professor Irada Khalilova, Rector of Khazar University, Professor Zafer Aslan, Vice-Rector of Istanbul University, Prof. Dr. Donald Gabriel, UNESCO Chair on Eremology, Professor at the Ghent University, Dr. Hassan Niknafs, Dean of the School of Natural Sciences and Engineering, Ahmet Sahin and Huseyin Toros professors of Istanbul Technical University, Associate Professor Zelha Altinkaya, Yalova University. During the meeting the prospects of future joint activities were explored and key business trends were identified. It was decided to implement joint scientific projects in many areas. The parties also agreed to hold the 2nd International Conference on “Air-Land-Sea Interactions” in Istanbul.
On the second day of the conference, speeches were delivered soncerning such topics as the effects of climate change on agricultural crops, water resources, transboundary pollution and climate modeling.
The participants of the conference listened to presentations on the topics high on the agenda, particularly on the proposed solutions to issues on air, land and the sea surface, and afterwards relevant discussions took place. The conference was concluded by closing speeches of Prof. Dr. Donald Gabriel, UNESCO Chair on Eremology, Professor at the Ghent University, Professor Shlomo Weber from the Southern Methodist University, Professor Zafer Aslan, Vice-Rector of Istanbul University, Associate Professor Irada Khalilova, Rector of Khazar University, and Dr. Rovshan Abbasov, Director of Geography and Environment Department.
Then, participants were awarded with certificates and gifts. After the conference a small trip was organized for the guests.
It should be noted that about 70 specialists from the US, Turkey, Russia, Belgium and Azerbaijan participated in this International Conference.
