On February 28, 2019, Department of Life Sciences of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering of Khazar University, organized an event dedicated to 1st of March - the International Day of Civil Defense. The event was attended by Major Javid Guliyev, the Head of the Department of Emergency Situations and Civil Defense of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, university staff and students.

1st of March - the International Day of Civil Defense is annually dedicated to one theme. Mais Talishkhanov, Khazar University’s employee, and Colonel-lieutenant in reserve, in his opening statement provided general information to the students on the importance of civil defense, its tasks, and ways how citizens can be prepared to emergency response.

Further on, the event was handed over to Leyla Orujova and Ulviya Ismaylova, students of the School of Natural Sciences and Engineering. Another student from the same School, Nurana Ahmedova presented information on the History and Development of the International Civil Defense Organization and Azerbaijan's role in this Organization. It was followed by Nargiz Verdiyeva’s presentation on “Children Safety is Our Responsibility”. Computer-based works of video and presentations were handled by the student Khazar Binyatov.

The event was continued with practical part. Student Maleyaka Azizova demonstrated practical rules for the preparation of the gauze and cotton swathe used as the most simple means of protections of respiratory organs. Rescue work during emergencies, giving artificial respiration to people during first-aid treatment and the rules of cardiac massage were explained and showed by student Narmina Suleymanova. Following that, students Mehbara Hasanova and Nurana Umudova presented the rules of the first medical aid without delay during fractures and traumas.

Associate Professor Gasham Zeynalov, Head of the Petroleum Engineering Department, of Khazar University, delivered speech at the event, giving information on emergency preparedness, warning methods and answered to the questions asked by the students.

At the end of the event, a video film on emergency situations and civil defense preparation in the Republic of Azerbaijan was demonstrated.
