On February 10, 2019, an official opening ceremony of the Chess Academy, affiliated with Khazar University, was held. The ceremony was attended by the chess community, representatives of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Chess Federation, chess players, media representatives, parents, etc.

Making a speech at the ceremony, Prof. Hamlet Isakhanli, Founder of Khazar University and Chairman of its Board of Directors and Trustees, mentioned that the aim of establishing a chess academy meeting modern requirements with its education program is to contribute to the development of chess in Azerbaijan. Then, Hamlet Isakhanli expressed his views on the history of chess in Azerbaijan and its future development.

Then Lutfiyar Rustamov, representative of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and a referee of the international category; Eldar Ismayilov, President of the Azerbaijan Association of Sports Journalists and Honored Journalist; Sarkhan Guliyev, Honored Trainer and international grandmaster who has served development of chess in our country, and others delivered speeches expressing their assurance for contribution of the Academy to the development of chess in Azerbaijan. Also, participants had a discussion about the prosperity of chess in Azerbaijan.
