Announcement for application: “Data, Economy and Development Policy” MicroMaster Program

Khazar University's Graduate School of Economics and Business is pleased to announce a call for the Data, Economics, and Development Policy (DEDP) MicroMaster Program to be held by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's (MIT) Department of Economics. The program aims to foster a new generation of professionals specializing in data-driven analysis to equip them with necessary analytical tools and skills to tackle the most pressing challenges of country`s development.  

The program covers the period from August 1, 2022 to April 30, 2023. 

20 students will be selected to participate in the program. The selection process will be carried out in stages, first on the basis of a CV and a letter of motivation, then a test in English and mathematics, and finally an interview. 

Classes in the program will be conducted online by MIT University faculty members (including Nobel laureates). As part of the program, Khazar University faculty will organize weekly facilitation classes to help students better comprehension of the complex theoretical and practical issues. 

All costs associated with the program will be fully borne by SOCAR and its partners in the “South Caucasus Pipeline Company (SCP)”.

Eligibility 

Applicants who are strongly interested in the design, implementation and monitoring of development programs by using data analytical tools and meet the following eligibility requirements:  

  • have at least a Bachelor’s degree in economics, econometrics, statistics, data analysis, mathematics, physics, engineering, finance, development or other related fields;
  • English language at upper intermediate level;
  • be under the age of 35. 

Students selected for the program will participate in preparatory classes in mathematics (calculus) and statistics to be held by local faculty at Khazar University in September 2022. From October 2022, MIT University teachers will teach the following subjects online: 

  • Micro Economy 
  • Data analytics for the social sciences 
  • Fundamentals of development policy: Higher Development Economics 
  • Design and application of randomized estimates 
  • Political Economy and Economic Development 

Upon successful completion of the Program, students will earn MicroMasters Program credits and certificate from MIT.

Deadline for applications: June 25, 2022 

Note. Candidates with TOEFL ≥ 95 or IELTS ≥ 7 results will be exempted from the English language test in the selection stage, and those with GMAT ≥ 700 results will be exempted from the mathematics exam.
