A workshop on "Cultural Diplomacy as Pedagogy" was held for students at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of Khazar University.
On October 30, Gunay Hajizada, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and Humay Huseynova, Executive Assistant to the Rector, conducted an interactive workshop on "Cultural Diplomacy as Pedagogy." The workshop was organized within the framework of the international cooperation project titled “Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a Tool for Processing and Designing Personal Narratives and Media Images to Strengthen Cultural Diplomacy Skills and Promote Social and Multicultural Relations.”
During the workshop, participants discussed and explored the importance of the transition in cultural diplomacy—shifting from merely showcasing culture to building dialogue and mutual exchange—as well as the idea that culture is not limited to traditions and that every individual possesses a multi-layered identity. Students shared their personal stories and reflected on stereotypes and barriers to dialogue.
Students also analyzed assumptions that arise when communicating with people from other cultures and explored how the same story can be interpreted in various ways. The workshop continued with simulations and group work.
During the discussions, the integration of cultural diplomacy into education, the reflection of cultural differences across different majors, and the role of the teacher as a cultural mediator were also in the spotlight.
