On July 3, 2019 representatives from Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran visited Khazar University. Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs was represented by Jafaf Bagheri, Director of Scholarship and Student Affairs, Hosein Jalini, Head of Media Affairs of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Baku, and Ali Musavi, Head of Consular section of the Embassy. The delegation met with Professor Hamlet Isakhanli, the Founder of Khazar University and the Chairman of its Board of Directors and Trustees. Associate Professor Irada Khalilova, Rector of Khazar University, Professor Mahammad Nuriyev, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Associate Professor Isakhan Isakhanli, Vice-Rector for Administration and Student Affairs, and Dr. Bahman Amani, Head of the English Language and Literature Department, Dr. Elmar Mustafayev, Head of the Political Science and Philosophy Department, Dr. Javid Ojaghi, Associate Professor of Life

Sciences Department, Alovsat Amirbayli, Director for Public Relations and Media, and Lamiya Panahova, Coordinator of the International Affairs Office, also participated in the meeting.

During the meeting both sides emphasized the necessity of strengthening academic ties between two countries and recognition of Azerbaijani universities by Iranian Ministry of Education. After an introduction to Khazar University, Mr. Jafaf Bagheri expressed his pleasure to visit Khazar University and to promote it upon his visit back to Iran to encourage more universities in Iran cooperating with Khazar and more students from Iran coming to Khazar for studying.

The sides also discussed the establishment of double degree programs between Khazar University and Iranian universities and to activate the scheme of visiting scholars to further strengthen academic ties. Participation of Iranian scholars is expected in the International Conference to be organized by English Language and Literature Department of Khazar University in March, 2020.
