On May 29-30, 2019, the School of Economics and Management of Khazar University held the 3^rd International Conference on “Economics of Football” within the framework of cooperation with the Russian Federation's New Economic School (NES) and the Higher School of Economics (HSE).

The main objective of the Conference was to support high-quality theoretical and practical studies covering economic, social and management issues in the football industry, and to develop cooperation between scholars, experts and young researchers.

The Conference was opened by Dr. Jeyhun Mammadov, the Dean of the School of Economics and Management and Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Conference. In his opening statement, he welcomed participants and delivered talk about the role of football and related tourism industries in social and economic development of Azerbaijan, the importance of the Conference and the benefits of sharing ideas and experiences among the experts, young researchers and students. Following that, Associate Professor Irada Khalilova, the Rector of Khazar University, Professor Shlomo Weber President of the New Economic School, and Dr. Dmitry Dagaev, Acting Vice-Rector of the Higher School of Economics, welcomed the Conference participants and wished success to the Conference. The Conference was attended by Mr. Fikret Huseynov, the Head of the Department of Football of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan, whereat he delivered a speech on the history of football in Azerbaijan, its successful development and the formation of the infrastructure that will lead to further development of football economy and tourism industry.

Along with local experts and students, the above-mentioned issues were discussed in detail with the participation of foreign experts, young researchers and students of New Economic School (NES), Higher School of Economics (HSE), “University of Maryland”, “Erasmus University Rotterdam”, “Ca’Foscari University of Venice”, “University of Groningen”, “University of Reading”, “Molde University College”, “Universidade Pablo de Olavide”, “Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation”, and “Lomonosov Moscow State University”, and provided a solid foundation for learning about the Economics of Football for broad audience.

The Conference concluded its work on 30^th of May, with closing speeches by Professor Hamlet Isakhanli, the Founder of Khazar University and Chairman of its Board of Directors and Trustees, and Professor Mahammad Nuriyev, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs.
