A Drone Competition to be held at Khazar University

A Drone competition will be held by the School of Applied Sciences and Engineering of Khazar University on December 26, 2018. The competition will be between 5 teams made of students from Mechanical and Electronic Engineering departments. Drones are known as unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) that are either operated by human from remote location or autonomously as per set mode. These flying robots are typically made of different light weight electrical and mechanical components generally of composite materials to enhance their maneuverability and period of operation. The upcoming competition as the first step in domesticizing the technology of drones for civilian applications are aimed on the design and development of frames with high stiffness that house different components of the drone, including flight and motor controllers, motors, transmitter and receiver, propellers, and power sources, and at the same time keep the overall weight of the drone minimum. The rules and regulations of this match decided by the competition coordinators are as follows:

  • The overall weight of the drone (including battery) should not exceed 999 g.
  • The maximum width of the frame should be below 300 mm.
  • The maximum height of the frame should be below 100 mm.
  • There is no restriction on the type of materials used, but they should not impose any safety hazard.
  • The extension of antennas should not go beyond 120 mm of the drone frame boundaries.
