On March 11, 2024, a scientific debate was held between students of Khazar University and Academy of State Customs Committee under the joint organization of Khazar University School of Economics and Management and "Economist" club. The debate focused on the topic "Foreign Trade Policy: Free Trade vs. Protectionism," a subject frequently deliberated on political and scholarly forums, deemed particularly pertinent to our nation in recent times.
Dean of the School of Economics and Management, Dr. Jeyhun Mammadov, along with department’s academic staff, acted as scientific opponents and judges during the event. The students from the Academy of State Customs Committee, who spoke first, presented compelling and substantiated arguments in support of the state's protectionist policy, drawing on both theoretical frameworks and empirical evidence. Subsequently, members of Khazar University's "Economist" club—Abdulla Nuriyev, Anvar Badalov, Huseyn Dadashov, and Goncha Gurbanova—presented well-founded theoretical considerations and empirical evidence advocating for the benefits of free trade policy. In the second part, characterized by mutual questioning, answering, and discussion, each party endeavored to counter the arguments put forth by the opposing side with their own compelling arguments.
