Nika Varlamova, the third-year student of Veterinary Medicine at Khazar University, took part in a fully funded interactive course BOVA “Comparative animal welfare and practical assessment”, held at the Estonian University of Life Sciences in Tartu, Estonia on April 17-21, 2023, within the framework of the project "Happy animals for sustainable production and consumption - HAnimSPAC".
The executor of the HAnimSPAC project, funded by the Social Innovation Program on ”Academic collaboration in the Baltic Sea region", is the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences.
The course consisted of 3 parts: in the 1st part, students prepared a presentation on the free topic of animal welfare, in the 2nd part, lectures were given on "What does animal welfare mean and how should it be evaluated", "Welfare of farm animals", "Rules during transportation”, "Welfare of animals kept in the zoo" etc. In the 3rd part, excursions to the zoo, farms and animal care center were organized. In the end, the students prepared a final presentation based on the information given to them, and actual issues related to animal welfare were widely discussed.
Note that Nika Varlamova is one of the few students who won the right to participate in the interactive course. Each student who successfully completed the course was awarded with a certificate and received 3 credits.
