Mirsadig Mukhtarov, staff member of Khazar University's Department of Psychology and psychologist at the Khazar Psychological Service Center, gave an interview to the "Sonxeber.az" news portal on August 13, 2026. He shared his views on the reasons why people are increasingly communicating less sincerely, the impact of digital technologies, and ways to communicate more effectively.
The psychologist noted that while phones, social networks, and online platforms increase opportunities for communication, they can also lead to a decline in real and emotional communication. According to him, lack of time, chronic stress, and emotional exhaustion also cause people to perceive communication as an additional burden.
Mirsadig Mukhtarov noted that fear of rejection, being misunderstood, and being criticized can drive people to maintain emotional distance. He also emphasized that social comparison and the expectation of perfection negatively affect communication. The psychologist noted the importance of active listening and empathy for effective communication. According to him, not interrupting the other person, asking questions, genuinely listening, and trying to understand their feelings are among the main conditions for healthy communication. Using phones and other electronic devices more consciously, and setting aside time for quality conversations with loved ones, also strengthens relationships.
The psychologist emphasized that being alone is not always a problem. Social isolation requires attention when it is not a person's choice and negatively affects their quality of life. According to him, communication is not merely an exchange of information, but also a need to be heard and understood.
