An online seminar was organized on March 12, 2026, within the framework of an integrative course project of the Languages and Literatures Department at Khazar University. The seminar, arranged by department instructor Maral Askarova, was dedicated to the topic "Steppe Culture and Its Formation" from the course "Culture of the Turkic World."
The seminar’s guest expert was Prof. Cüneyt Akın of Türkiye’s Afyon Kocatepe University, who has conducted extensive research in the fields of Turkic dialects and literatures (Kipchak languages) and Turkic culture. He worked in Kyrgyzstan for many years and is known for his fundamental studies on the dialects and vocabulary of the Kyrgyz language. In recent years, Cüneyt Akın’s research has focused on topics such as Turkic culture, Turkic politics, and traditions in Turkic state-building, attracting significant attention. His book titled “Türk Devletleri Teşkilatının Türk Birliğine Dönüşme İmkânı” reflects his in-depth work in the field.
During interactive session, students were provided with information on the following topics: “The geographical and ecological context of the Eurasian steppes,” “Archaeological traces of proto-Turkic societies” (3rd–1st millennia BC), “Socio-economic foundations of the nomadic lifestyle,” “The statehood traditions of the Huns and Göktürks, the Orkhon inscriptions,” and “Directions in material culture, horsemanship, and metallurgical technologies.”
The fact that Prof. Cuneyt Akin delivered his presentation in Azerbaijani and prepared his materials for students specifically in that language was met with great appreciation by the participants.
At the end of the seminar, the expert expressed his gratitude to the university administration for the conditions provided.
