An international conference titled "The History and Future of Azerbaijan–Türkiye Relations" was held at Bayburt University on February 17, 2026, organised by Bayburt University of Türkiye and the Consulate General of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Kars.
At the academically convened event, the historical, political and geopolitical foundations of relations between the two brotherly nations were extensively discussed, with emphasis placed on the fact that the concept of "One Nation, Two States" is not merely a political slogan, but an unshakeable model of unity rooted in deep historical origins.
At the conference, Assoc. Prof. Telman Nusratoglu, Head of the Department of History and Archaeology at Khazar University, delivered a paper titled "Azerbaijan–Türkiye Brotherhood Based on Historical Documents." The paper drew on archival documents and rich historical sources to substantiate with scholarly evidence that Azerbaijan–Türkiye relations were further strengthened during particularly difficult and complex periods, and that mutual support and solidarity evolved into an indestructible unity.
On the sidelines of the conference, the book Ottoman Prisoners in Nargin and the Assistance of Azerbaijani Turks to Prisoners, published by Khazar University with the support of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TCCA), was presented to the Rector of Bayburt University and subsequently donated to the university's library. The publication documents, on the basis of archival materials, the humanitarian assistance rendered by Azerbaijani Turks to Ottoman prisoners held on Nargin Island during the World War I.
