The Juvenile Delinquency Prevention Unit (JDPU) of the Baku City Main Police Department continues its awareness-raising activities under the theme "Say No to Drug Addiction!" A seminar on this topic was held on February 13, 2026, at Secondary School No. 72 in the Balakhani settlement of Baku's Surakhani district, organised by the Unit.
At the seminar, Mirsadiq Mukhtarov, a staff member of the Department of Psychology at Khazar University and psychologist at the Khazar Psychological Service Centre, spoke about the psychological and social consequences of substance addiction in society. He noted that among the key factors contributing to the development of substance addiction, intra-family problems, the negative influence of the social environment, peer pressure, and psychological stress occupy a particular place. According to the psychologist, when timely intervention is not provided, these conditions cause serious harm to an individual's health and create deep rifts in social relationships. The psychologist emphasised the importance of strengthening preventive measures and implementing awareness-raising projects on a broader scale. It was noted that the family and educational environment play a decisive role in reducing risks. Attention was drawn to the fact that promoting a healthy lifestyle is one of the fundamental conditions for the proper development of young people and their future advancement.
The event was attended by Ibrahim Ismayilov, Head of the Juvenile Delinquency Prevention Unit of the Baku City Main Police Department and police colonel; unit inspectors Police Major Afag Aliyeva and Police Senior Lieutenant Aysel Hajiyeva; and Fidan Atakhanli, sociologist at the Baku Narcology Centre.
The event was held in an interactive format with the active participation of students and teaching staff, and an extensive exchange of views on the subject took place.
