On January 20, 2026, Khazar University Rector Raziya Isayeva, the faculty, and university staff visited Martyrs' Lane and commemorated with deep respect the memory of martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the freedom, sovereignty, and independence of the Azerbaijani people on the occasion of the anniversary of the January tragedy, and laid flowers at their graves.

The bloody events that took place on January 20, 1990, failed to suppress the Azerbaijani people’s aspiration for freedom; on the contrary, they accelerated the path toward the establishment of an independent Azerbaijani state. This tragedy has been forever etched in the national memory as both a deeply painful and a profoundly proud chapter of history.

Preserving the sacred memory of the martyrs and conveying the truth about the January 20 events to younger generations in an accurate, objective, and comprehensive manner remains one of the core moral values of Khazar University.
