On the anniversary of the January 20 tragedy, the Rector of Khazar University, together with the academic staff and university employees, visited the Alley of Martyrs. The primary purpose of the visit was to commemorate with deep respect and reverence the martyrs of January 20, who sacrificed their lives for the freedom, sovereignty, and independence of the Azerbaijani people.
During the visit, flowers were laid at the graves of the martyrs, and their cherished memory was honored with profound respect. January 20 represent one of the most honorable and unforgettable chapters in the Azerbaijani people’s struggle for national freedom, vividly demonstrating their unbreakable will, unity, and determination to the world.
The bloody events that took place on January 20, 1990, failed to suppress the Azerbaijani people’s aspiration for freedom; on the contrary, they accelerated the path toward the establishment of an independent Azerbaijani state. This tragedy has been forever etched in the national memory as both a deeply painful and a profoundly proud chapter of history.
Preserving the sacred memory of the martyrs and conveying the truth about the January 20 events to younger generations in an accurate, objective, and comprehensive manner remains one of the core moral values of Khazar University.
