On January 19, 2026, a commemoration event dedicated to the 36th anniversary of the January 20 events was held at the university with the participation of the leadership, faculty, and students, organized by the Department of History and Archaeology.

Dr. Sohrab Mustafayev, Dr. Odar Alizade, Dr. Ulviyya Ibrahimova, faculty members of the Department of History and Archaeology, and Alovsat Amirbayli, Director of Public Relations and Media at Khazar University, delivered speeches. The speeches emphasized the unprecedented brutality perpetrated by the Soviet empire against the Azerbaijani people, the essence of the January 20 events, our nation's spirit of struggle for national independence and territorial integrity, and noted that all of Moscow's pressures and attempts to create fear were repelled through national unity and solidarity.

On January 20, the university leadership and staff visited the Alley of Martyrs.
