On January 17, 2026, an article titled "Turkish Mind Against Fragmentation Projects" by Assoc. Prof. Telman Nusratoglu, Head of the Department of History and Archaeology, was published in "Türkiye" newspaper, one of Türkiye's most prestigious press organs.
In the article, Associate Professor Telman Nusratoglu stated that the Middle East today faces the threat of fragmentation through ethnic and sectarian confrontations, and this process creates serious risks for the region. According to the department head, the main objective of this fragmentation policy is to encircle Türkiye from the south, weaken Iran, and keep Iraq and Syria in a state of permanent instability. Associate Professor Telman Nusratoglu emphasized that Türkiye is currently the main stability and balance factor in the region, and the Turkic world is no longer in a passive position. The scholar, stating that the most rational path for Iran lies through Türkiye-Azerbaijan centered regional cooperation, noted the importance of Tehran abandoning sectarian approaches. He stated that Iran's complete collapse would create not democracy but chaos and humanitarian disaster in the region. Touching upon China and Russia's Iran policy, Telman Nusratoglu indicated that these countries are interested neither in Iran's complete strengthening nor in its complete disintegration. In conclusion, he noted that Turko-Islamic unity is not a romantic idea, but a real and necessary path to survival in the existing world order.
