On January 15, 2026, under the guidance of Khazar University's Department of Life Sciences instructor Gulafat Shafiyeva, fourth and fifth-year students majoring in "Biology Teaching" and "Chemistry-Biology Teaching" took an excursion to the "Eco Park" Innovation Center, owned by "Ecol Engineering Services" LLC.
An educational event was organized for students as part of the excursion. At the opening of the event, Head of the Environmental Monitoring Department Sabutay Aliyev stated that the park territory is fully powered by renewable energy sources, including an existing water source on the premises, three wind turbines each with a capacity of 10 kW, as well as solar panels installed on building roofs.
Subsequently, ecologist Mehriban Alasgharova from the Environmental Monitoring Department provided detailed information about environmental passports prepared for various industrial enterprises, their significance, and preparation procedures.
Zoologist Seljan Huseynli and biologist Jafar Safarov from the Environmental Monitoring Department discussed analyses conducted on animal and plant samples to determine pollution levels in various areas.
According to information provided by park staff, the territory was previously used by an oil and gas extraction facility and the soil was contaminated with oil waste. As a result of reclamation work carried out by SOCAR, the area was restored and now operates as an ecological park.
At the conclusion of the event, Sabutay Aliyev emphasized the importance of continuing cooperation with the university and put forward proposals regarding organizing debates and involving students in field research in small groups in the future.
