Psychology Department Staff Member Gives Interview to SİA.AZ News Website

On January 6, 2026, Mirsadiq Mukhtarov, staff member of Khazar University's Department of Psychology and psychologist at the Khazar Psychological Service Center, gave an interview to SİA.AZ news website. The psychologist shared his detailed views on the increasing tendency of people to communicate with artificial intelligence in the modern era, the psychological and social causes of this tendency, as well as its impact on interpersonal relationships.

He stated that it is not possible to explain the increase in communication with artificial intelligence by a single cause, and that both individual psychological-emotional state and changes occurring in interpersonal relationships play an important role here. Mirsadiq Mukhtarov noted that artificial intelligence creates comfort for people in terms of listening without judgment, being available at all times, and carrying no social risk. The increasing impact of technology on our lives leads to the weakening of interpersonal relationships, a decrease in face-to-face communication, and a lack of empathy. As cases of inattention and being misunderstood in real relationships increase, people experience difficulty in establishing emotional closeness and turn to non-judgmental alternatives. Additionally, it was stated that people do not hesitate to share their weaknesses, fears, and hidden thoughts with artificial intelligence, and these characteristics create a foundation for the increase in its use.

In conclusion, the psychologist emphasized that artificial intelligence cannot replace genuine love and empathy and can only partially satisfy a person's need to be heard and understood by imitating them. Although technology provides comfort and support, the value of human relationships and their development is irreplaceable.
