On November 25, 2025, a scientific seminar on the topic “Corpus Linguistics in the Context of Artificial Intelligence Challenges” was held at Khazar University.
The event was opened by Dr. Milana Abbasova, Dean of the School of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences, who emphasized the relevance of this field and noted that corpus linguistics opens new directions in Azerbaijani linguistics from both scientific and practical perspectives.
Prof. Acad. Hamlet Isakhanli, Founder of Khazar and Chair of the Board of Directors and Trustees, highlighted the university’s special emphasis on promoting modern language technologies and new research methods. He spoke about the strategic importance of language development, the impact of AI on science, and the formation of language resources.
The keynote speaker, Prof. Masud Mahmudov, Head of the Department of Computational Linguistics at the Institute of Linguistics of ANAS, provided extensive information on the theoretical foundations of corpus linguistics, modern international practices, the necessity of creating electronic resources for the Azerbaijani language, and the requirements of artificial intelligence models for corpora. He also stressed that corpora are invaluable materials in terms of reflecting the real use of language, and that a reliable text base and properly structured linguistic data play a crucial role in the accuracy of artificial intelligence systems.
Following the scholar’s presentation, the seminar continued in the form of a roundtable discussion around a tea table. Participants included Assoc. Prof. Dilbar Zeynalova, Head of the Department of Languages and Literatures at Khazar, several faculty members from the department specializing in linguistics, Assoc. Prof. Konul Habibova, Maya Heydarova, and Natavan Rahmanova from the Department of Computational Linguistics at the Institute of Linguistics of ANAS, as well as Assoc. Prof. Jale Garibova, Head of the International Relations Department at Azerbaijan University of Languages.
At the conclusion, participants shared their suggestions regarding the development prospects of corpus linguistics in Azerbaijan, strengthening institutional collaboration in this field, and the wider application of language technologies.
