On September 26, 2023, an event on the occasion of the European Language Day was organized by Khazar University and the Latvian embassy in the Republic of Azerbaijan as part of the Latvian presidency of EUNIC at the Fikrat Amirov conference-Concert Center on the Downtown Campus of Khazar university. The event was attended by the administration and staff of Khazar University and the Latvian embassy, students, as well as ambassadors and their representatives in the diplomatic service in Azerbaijan.
The presenters of the event were Tamella Mammadli and Sonasi Valiyeva, instructors of the English Language and Literature Department of Khazar University. The event began with the performance of the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the European Anthem by the Khazar University Chamber Orchestra.
Then students of Khazar University "Dunya" school greeted the participants in 21 European languages.
The founder of Khazar University, chairman of the Board of Directors and Trustees, Prof.Acad. Hamlet Isakhanli, rector of the University, Assoc. Prof. Irada Khalilova, and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to Azerbaijan, Daynis Garancs, spoke and emphasized the great importance of celebrating such events in the establishment of relations and communication between peoples.
A short video of the European anthem was shown in different languages. Then interactive games were held by representatives of each country together with participants. Shayasta Malekan, Fatima Aliyeva and Ramala Hasanova, students of the Department of English Language and Literature of Khazar University, majoring in philology, made an interesting presentation on “Indo-European languages“. Participants of the event also viewed stands with symbols and booklets reflecting the traditions of different countries.
Note that the Day of European Languages is held annually on September 26 in Europe and other countries. It was established by the Council of Europe on December 6, 2001.
