An event on the occasion of the 880th anniversary of the great Azerbaijani poet and thinker Nizami Ganjavi was held at the Institute of Geography named after Academician H.A.Aliyev of ANAS with the participation of the founder of Khazar University, Chairman of its Board of Directors and Trustees, Professor, Academician Hamlet Isaxanli.
Opening the event, Director General of the Institute, Doctor of Geographical Sciences Zakir Eminov noted that 2021 was declared the Year of Nizami in our country by the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The director said that the immortal works of Nizami Ganjavi, a prominent representative of world culture, genius Azerbaijani poet and thinker, have a special place in the unique cultural treasures of the East. The decision made on the initiative of national leader Heydar Aliyev to study the brilliant legacy of the great thinker, the celebration of his anniversaries at the state level plays an important role in the wider study and promotion of the poet's works. Literature are named after Nizami Ganjavi, his mausoleum was built in his hometown of Ganja, statues were erected in Baku, St.Petersburg and Rome.
Then, Professor, Academician Hamlet Isaxanli delivered a speech on "Nizami's philosophy of geographical space and time." H. Isaxanli began his speech by expressing satisfaction with his visit to the Institute of Geography of ANAS, emphasizing that he had a special view of the creativity of Nizami, a giant of Azerbaijani culture. He said that he studied the works of the poet, who wrote in Persian, through their translations and published a series of articles, mainly in English. Saying that he is the author of a chapter of a large two-volume book about Nizami Ganjavi recently published by Americans in England, H. Isaxanli expressed his attitude on the views of the great thinker, his philosophical views on China and analyzed his works in terms of geographical space and time. He noted that first of all, one's geographical imaginations play a key role in determining a person's worldview. In this regard, Nizami's knowledge of the geographical - physical, political, economic map of the world plays an significant role. The poet was also a broad-minded person with knowledge of history, literature, music, fine arts, and a wide range of sciences.
At the end of his speech, H. Isaxanli answered numerous questions of the participants about his research on Nizami.
