On December 20, 2016, an initial discussion was held in the Khazar University Department of English Language and Literature for the PhD dissertation defense of Khanim Ahmadova, instructor of the same department, on the topic of “Research on English-Language Resources Related to the Essence of Language” (Germanic Languages–5708.01).

Participants in the event included Committee members Dr. Eldar Shahgaldiyev, Head of the Division for Graduate Students and Research; Eynur Mehdiyev, Deputy Chair of the Department of English Language and Literature; and instructors of the Department including Irina Orujova, Jamala Mammadova, Milana Abbasova, and Gulnar Abbasova. Other participants included Ahmadova’s advisor, Professor Fakhraddin Veyselli of the General Linguistics Department at Azerbaijan University of Languages (AUL); and the following reviewers: Professor Afgan Abdullayev, Vice Rector of AUL; Associate Professor Amil Jafarov, Chair of the English Language Lexicology Department at AUL; and Associate Professor Jamil Babayev of the General Linguistics Department at AUL.

During the meeting, Khanim Ahmadova presented her dissertation. Then she explained her responses to reviewers’ comments and answered the committee members’ questions.

At the end of the event, the committee members agreed that the dissertation work was satisfactory and could be recommended for advancement to the next stage of the defense procedure.
