On September 18, 2016, an event was held at Dunya School to commemorate the birthday of Uzeyir Hajibeyli, great composer, music scholar, playwright, educator, civil servant, and the father of modern Azerbaijani music and national opera. Participants listened to information about Hajibeyli and watched a documentary about him.
This event was part of a series of events at Dunya School dedicated to Uzeyir Hajibeyli including performances of the composer’s music, memories shared by teachers and students, and discussions.
This year, as in other years, students were taken on a field trip to Uzeyir Hajibeyli’s house museum, where they learned more about the great composer.
On the same day, another historical figure is also remembered: September 18 is also the birthday of Muslum Magomayev (18 September 1885 – 28 July 1937), Azerbaijani composer, director, educator, folklorist, civil servant, author of the first Azerbaijani opera in European style (Nargiz, 1935) and People’s Artist of the Azerbaijan SSR.
