On September 13, 2016, Khazar University hosted a delegation from the University of Tabriz. The meeting took place on the Neftchiler campus of Khazar University.

Participants from University of Tabriz included Dr. Mohammadreza Pourmohammadi, Chancellor of Tabriz University; Dr. Ahmad Farshbafian, President of the Research and Development Center Studying Azerbaijan; and representatives of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Participants from Khazar University included Professor Hamlet Isaxanli, the founder of Khazar University and Chairman of its Board of Directors and Trustees; Dr. Hasan Niknafs, President of the University; Dr. Isakhan Isakhanli, Vice President for Administration and Student Affairs; and Turan Jafarova, Director of the International Office.

Dr. Mohammadreza Pourmohammadi gave a brief presentation about the University of Tabriz. He informed the meeting participants that University of Tabriz is the second largest university in Iran with more than 20,000 students and a wide range of programs in the fields of engineering, agriculture, law, and more.

Then Prof. Hamlet Isaxanli informed the guests about Khazar University, its development and internationalization strategy. He expressed interest in cooperation with the University of Tabriz.

The following topics were discussed: cooperation between the two universities, staff and student exchange, joint degree programs, joint research and publications, supervision of graduate students, joint academic and cultural programs, and other projects of mutual interest. A memorandum of understanding was signed.
