As stated in the university and local media, QS University rankings organized annual ranking of the best universities in Emerging Europe and Central Asia (EECA) for 2016. Khazar University was ranked the 68th, selected as the best university in Azerbaijan, as well as being chosen as the only university from Azerbailan among the 70 higher education institutions in the region.

Other universities from Azerbaijan took the following places: Baku State University - 88th place; Qafqaz University - 89th place; University of Languages- 121-130th place; State Economic University of Azerbaijan 150-200th place and; ADA University 150-200th place.

The body of the Ministry of Education of Azerbaijan - "Azerbaijan teacher" newspaper, dated June 25, 2016, dedicated a whole page to this event. The author of the page is Oruj Mustafayev, head of International Relations Department of Editorial Office. In addition to his article, a rating list of 100 universities also appeared on the page.
