Graduate Program

Master of Arts in World Economics and Migration

Migration in today’s globalised world stands at the heart of key national and international debates. It has developed new dynamics and poses new social, economic and political challenges. From this viewpoint, the School of Economics and Management at Khazar University offers the Master’s Program in World Economics and Migration Processes. The program introduces students to key concepts, research and analysis in the economical aspects of migration. It enables students to understand the nature of local, regional and international migration and its role in global social and economic change. Teaching in the program combines lectures and discussion seminars. Students have individual dissertation supervision and are expected to complete an internship during the program. The Master’s Program in Migration Studies  is aimed toward students who wish to work with migrants and asylum seekers in  Azerbaijan and different parts of the world; who aspire to posts in International Organization for Migration, State Migration Service, United Nations, Council of Europe, European Union, World Bank, national policy think-tanks, government research and policy departments, or NGOs; and to students wishing to pursue doctorates in the field of World Economics and Migration Processes.

Aims and objectives:

  • to analyze theoretical and empirical models developed to study the economic impact of migration;
  • to realize the processes involved in the close relationship of migration with world economics;
  • to analyze the political economy of migration from a historical perspective, different forms of the study of migration and major trends in migration theories;
  • to offer students the opportunity to combine study and analysis of new critical perspectives on the world economy and migration studies;
  • to develop students’ ability to think critically;
  • to foster students’ ability to carry out independent research.
